How the Mentorship Program Works
How the Mentors Program Works
Each team from the Biotech/Life Sciences, Products/Services, Development, Web/IT, and Mobile tracks that makes it to the Business Plan Contest (BPC) semi-finals will be paired with one attorney and one venture mentor (a VC or entrepreneur). Teams from the Energy track will be paired with one attorney, one experienced entrepreneur, and one corporate executive. Our goal for the Mentors Program is that working with experienced, industry experts will allow participants to reach their full potential in developing their ideas into sound business proposals.
Mentor Qualifications
The Mentorship Program is open to:
- Senior level attorneys currently employed by a law firm
- Partner level venture capitalists currently employed by a VC firm
- Entrepreneurs who successfully founded a start-up and now serve on the executive team for that company.
- Corporate executives with experience in the energy industry (Energy Track only)
Mentor Commitment
Mentors will be paired with participants once the semi-finalist teams are determined at the BPC Semifinals Awards Show in early March. Once these assignments are made, mentors will work with their teams through the BPC finale in Mid-May. During this time we ask that mentors meet for one hour in person with their teams at least twice and maintain availability to communicate regularly via email and/or phone. In addition, the $100K Organizers Committee hosts a formal dinner in Mid-March where teams will meet with their mentors and begin the collaboration. Attendance at this event is required for Mentorship Program participation.
