BPC Track Winners and Finalists Announced

The MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition would like to announce the track winners for the 2010 Business Plan Contest. These teams have taken a major step toward building their venture, and will continue on in the contest toward the goal of winning $100k in cash prizes. The overall winner as well as the runner-ups in each track, audience choice winner and the TWITCH winner will all be announced at our Finale event on May 12 at Kresge Auditorium. Semi-finalist poster session will start at 5:30PM and the main show will start at 7 PM.

Development Track: SolSource 3-in-1 – SolSource 3-in-1 is a novel device that harnesses solar energy for portable cooking, heating and electricity generation. In addition to meeting more energy needs, it combats indoor air pollution and is designed specifically for the practical considerations of life in regions of the world where polluting fuels are currently the only feasible option.

Life Sciences Track: Aukera Therapeutics – ALS is a rare but devastating neurodegenerative disease that is rapidly progressive and invariably fatal. There is only one FDA approved drug for ALS which extends life only 2-3 months. ALS patients are deficient in Angiogenin, a naturally occurring protein, and mouse studies have shown statistically significant efficacy with systemic delivery.

Mobile Track: Lark Technologies – By combining sophisticated user-centric product design, applying cutting edge sleep science, and harnessing the power of smart phones, Lark Technologies provides compelling nonmedical solutions around optimizing sleep to make both people happier, healthier, smarter, and empowered to demonstrate their respect for each other. Our flagship product, Lark, is a silent waking system for busy professionals with different sleep schedules.

Products and Services Track: Privo Technologies- Nanotechnology based chewing gums for controlled delivery of insulin. We have the ability to control the release of agents mixed in to our formulations. Whether the agent is an energy supplement, pain killer, or mint flavored gel, it will be accurately released using our innovative delivery system.

Web/IT Track: KarDo – KarDo reduces the cost of IT support. It eliminates the wasted effort of repetitive tasks by allowing IT staff to easily produce configuration-independent automation. KarDo’s breakthrough technology is based on patent pending computer systems and machine learning research from MIT.

In addition, two teams remain in the hunt from the MIT Clean Energy Prize to win the Energy Track prize and continue on toward willing the $100K cash prize. The energy finalist will be announced on May 12.

C-Crete Technologies – A nanoengineered concrete not only reduces CO2 emissions worldwide but also it can be tuned to be much stronger than typical concrete.

OsComp Systems – OsComp will commercialize a revolutionary gas compressor developed in conjunction with MIT that offers a low initial and operating cost, high efficiency, small weight and footprint, easy serviceability, and high reliability.
